What's YOUR strategy?

I have an appointment with one of these this morning.....

And I'm armed with my list.....

What's your grocery shopping strategy?  do you have one, or do you just wing it?  Isn't it frustrating to finish your shopping and then realize you forgot ONE item?  so how do you deal with your shopping, especially for the holidays?? Do share!  I would love to learn your secrets!  I plan to get there and get it done, before school is out, and before everything is gone...that's as far as I've gotten with my strategy this morning...oh and I've had a cup of coffee...I think I need the fortification of  one more cup!  How about you?

I usually make my list (I am a definite "list" girl) and then head out to get as much as I can about a week or so before the big event. Then a few days before, I head back for perishables that couldn't be bought until the last minute, and of course the things I forgot the first time around. Inevitably, in the midst of one of the recipes, I realize I don't have a needed ingredient and have a meltdown...such is my strategy.

Clearly, Shannon, you are a week ahead of me....I'm sorely behind; oh well, maybe I"ll get a bottle of wine while I"m there!! ;D

I have made lists in the past only to discover I had forgotten some major ingredient anyways. Now I just wing it and my husband always has to stop and pick up what I forget! LOL.....Happy Thanksgiving!!!

I always make a list, and I ALWAYS leave the list at home, or in the car, or in my other coat pocket. Last week I brought home a quart of Candy Cane Ice Cream. It goes fast and I wanted some for the grands when they get here in Dec. Guess what? It goes fast here too. All gone already!

I list the items that I'm serving and then next to that I list any ingredients that I'll need to make it that aren't in the pantry. I usually still end up running back for something.

Char, that sounds a lot like what I do! GREAT minds, don't you know??

My strategy is the sames as your, most of the time--but with a few stores, I always grab the same items, so I don't use a list...
Coffee is my bff before shopping, too!
Holiday shopping is different-that is done in one day-just kidding.

I made a list, because if I don't...well you know. I'm only making the pies and the sweet potatoes, so my list wasn't too long. Went early this morning so the store would be stocked and thought I would miss the crowd. Funny how many others thought that too.
Have a blessed Thanksgiving, Suzanne.

I make about 3 lists - 1 for Costco 1 for one store and one for another. I would simplify my life if I could just find a one stop shop!! We celebrated on Sunday so I can just sit back and watch the rest of you go!
Happy Thanksgiving!

I have to have a list or I'll never remember everything. Today is a shopping day for me.

Hi Suzanne! Well, since I've gone back to work and there are fewer of us at home, my strategy is gone. I stop by the store when I can and throw things in the basket. Of course, that means we might have 4 peanut butters and no jelly. That's ok. :)
