Spicey!!!????

As you many know, I've been following my friend Renee's posts since she's been dealing with EASY steps to take for the new year. I've ALL OVER the easy! So here's what she is challenging us to do today.....

New Year, New Start: Day 5

clip_image002Let’s spice things up! Oops…not with those old things. Something in your spice cabinet has definitely lost its savor. I’ll save the “fresh herbs” post for later, but for now – find an ancient bottle or tin and pitch it. Your palate will praise you.

I realize that by the end of the month, most of you will be following Renee and won't really need me to be telling you what Renee's challenge for the day is! However, I will continue at least thru day 10 because not only is it making my posts EASY (and we all know how I love EASY!), it gives those friends of mine a chance to catch up with who Renee is and I'm also all about spreading the blog love!!
She's giving us a small little challenge about our spice cabinet, and I know for sure that mine could use an overhaul. In fact, it's on my list of things TO DO...or em, ta da!! Something I've yet to blog about, but plan to, is that fact that I am overhauling my kitchen system...I've even got pictures. During the holidays, right after I got over the crud, in fact, I realized I couldn't fit another thing in my pantry. It was one HOT MESS. I mentioned my idea to my husband and he even liked it and encouraged me to do it, so in about one three hour session, I totally exchanged my food pantry and my dishes cabinet so that each one did the others job, and might I add, did it even more efficiently! I pulled every can of food, box of pasta, bag of chips, container of mustard (who knew there were THREE in the pantry!!!, and organized my collection of dishes into the pantry and put all the food items into my kitchen cabinets.....this included a little trip to WalMart to buy some baskets and wire shelving. I will bring pics tomorrow perhaps to show you just how great it turned out. So the clearing the spice cabinet out should be a cinch today! I KNOW there is a least one thing I can get rid of out of there! What about you?

I'm cracking up because One Hot Mess is what I thought to myself this morning when looking at my dining room project. My son says our house is a fire hazard right now...you can barely walk through. Isn't that how it goes with projects though?

When we moved into this house I put everything into it's place. Several years later I realized that I didn't have to leave things in the same spot..I could put them anywhere. Sometimes it takes time and thought to realize there's room for improvement.

Awww...thanks for sharing the blog-love my friend! (Shhh...I've been looking at your "who I follow list" and working my through them. I'm finding all kinds of new favorite places!)

I can't wait to see the pantry pics! Isn't it amazing that the best solution is often right under our very nose?

That sounds like such a great idea! We did some similar things on our two weeks off...but not quite enough to make a huge difference yet... But we are working on it!

I can't wait to see some pictures!

Sounds like you have been busy, busy...I can't wait to see the fruits of your labor. Storage seems to be a problem that we all combat every day and one that I have been thinking about a lot lately. Every home should include a room for storage, a prop room if you will...sounds like a great idea to me.

I love the pantry switchin' idea! You must show and tell us!
PS Be ever so glad that your hot mess was contained to your pantry...my has spilled over into the rest of the house. Sure sign the teenagers are home. :)

I have some faded, dried up little leaves in a bottle that used to be BAY leaves ... lol I'm going to go toss them right now.

Can't wait to see your newly organized pantry!

Not being much of a cook, my spice rack looks just fine. But my freezer?!? Yikes!! I got rid of a bunch of old food and three-quarters-eaten ice cream containers. And now the freezer looks great! Ta da!!

What a great idea. I need all the help I can get organizing and cleaning up! I'm going over to check out Renee's blog.

Suzanne, thanks for the Southern Living at Home info. I've only been to a couple of their parties, but I remember how much I loved their stuff!

Well, you did spice things up a bit, huh??? Amazing how moving things around make them feel brand new. Can't wait to see your pictures.

I'm having a little bit of regret that I didn't get pull outs in several of my cabinets. :( Oh well, I can add that later, right? I think it's not too big of a deal.

OK, Suzanne...you have totally inspired me! Of course, I have been very busy lately trying to get our house "show ready" for it to go on the market, so I've been doing pretty well with cleaning out things, I must say. Makes me feel like a new woman!
