What's on your Wall Wednesday

I love this little shindig that Barb at Grits and Glamour throws every Wednesday called What's on your Wall Wednesday. It's always fun to see the wall decor in the homes of other bloggers, so I love to join in. It's been a few weeks since I joined in, but I thought today would be a good day to get back to it. I've been wanting to show you a new family heirloom and I'm going to stretch and use it today, too, since it's up AGAINST the wall, and takes up a fair amount of space on the wall in the living room. This piece is far bigger than I originally thought it was going to be, so finding a good spot for it was a little bit of a challenge. So for now, it's in the living room, which is sort of in flux anyway until I find a new sofa, and redecorate around that. This desk belonged to my father in law's grandfather, I believe. He wanted my husband to have it, and went to great lengths to make that happen. It's been moved from one city to the next and just recently moved from their home to ours. I think it's found a resting place for now anyway. It sure would be fun to know where all it's been and what treasures it has contained from time to time. I have tried to "date" it, but have not had much luck, so if anyone has any ideas, I'd love to know. The only markings we can find on it are on the lock, which says Carson Cabinet Locks......and it appears that the dovetailing on the drawers are machine made, as they are fairly uniform. That does help date it to a degree.
Anyway, I thought I'd show you the family heirloom rolltop desk....VOILA!!!!!!

I am still working on filling it, and decorating around it.....I'm changing out the picture above it, and the decor that sits on top of it....so I'll bring you the AFTER pics when all of that is done. Any suggestions are welcome. This is a huge piece and I am not certain how to best use it in here. Comments and suggestions....bring them on!

Don't forget that I have another giveaway in the works from yesterday's post here.......I will do the giveaway on Friday of this week, so leave some comments if you want to enter! Have a totally wonderful Wednesday!

Fabulous desk. I have a few inherited pieces in my house that has been hard to find a place for. But I've managed.

What a beautiful desk Suzanne! I love that it has meaning and history to you. Maybe hand a long mirror above or something to draw the eye upward. It looks like that wall is quite high. Or something on top of the desk like a pretty, tall vase with curly willow or something tall to draw the eye upward.

Can't wait to see what you do!

XOXO

Suzanne I have the same exact picture hanging in my living room. It is Monet. I love desks also. Have three in my house, but only one is an heirloom. I posted it last week I think. Yours is beautiful. Come visit me.

Ooooh, I love roll-top desks. They're ginormous though and very hard to decorate around. They tend to command attention, don't they. I don't have any tips though, I'm sorry. I'm just going to sit awhile and admire it though. :)

Suzanne, that is a beautiful family heirloom. I know you appreciate having it. I would love to have a roll top desk. You'll have to show it to us again when it's filled and "decorated"! Wouldn't your fil say "hmmmm" if he knew we were talking about decorating his well used desk? lol!

You are so sweet to offer so many giveaways. :)

Oh my Suzanne! That desk is gorgeous!! If I had to replace my bed to use it I would LOL I would make a guess that it was made sometime in the late 1800s. It look a little Victorian to me, but I can't be sure. I love it!
